Large-scale analysis of 213 school-based social-emotional learning (SEL) programs involving over 270,000 students shows that SEL improves students’ social and emotional skills, attitudes, behavior, and academic performance — with gains equivalent to an 11-percentile-point increase in achievement. The findings also demonstrate that teachers can successfully deliver SEL programs within regular classroom settings, especially when evidence-based practices are used.
